In 2003, the Petitcodiac River was designated as the most endangered river in Canada by Earth Wild. Our watershed faces a number of environmental threats from causeways and dams, sewage pollution, leaking abandoned landfills and other sources. Petitcodiac Riverkeeper works to address these issues through public awareness and education in addition to legal action, where appropriate. While our main focus over the years has been raising awareness about the urgent need to remove the Petitcodiac River causeway, and while the July 2008 announcement by the Province of New Brunswick marked real progress on that front, we continue to work on many other important watershed issues. We have now seen that together, we can help the river and its ecosystem.
