Petitcodiac River Walking Tour

Sentinelles Petitcodiac Riverkeeper (SPR) is offering FREE guided tours along the Petitcodiac River this summer. Participants will learn about the river’s history and ecological importance while walking directly next to the beautiful chocolate river.

We’ve carefully designed these tours to show visitors every important aspect of the river, from its rich Acadian and Mi’kmaq culture to the phenomenal natural values. Our guides will lead you along the Petitcodiac River and explain how the river has gone from one of the most endangered rivers in Canada to one of the most successful stories of restoration.

We also provide participants with the tools to be actively involved in creating a healthy ecosystem in their neighbourhoods. Participants might receive native plant seeds to plant in their yard and instructions on how to continue caring for their natural environment. Our free guided tours are approximately an hour to an hour and a half in length.

Participants should be prepared to walk a few kilometres in the sun, so don’t forget to wear some comfortable shoes and be sure to bring:

  • a hat,
  • sunglasses,
  • sunscreen,
  • bug spray,
  • a reusable water bottle
  • or anything else you may need!

Wabanaki Poker Run

In collaboration with the Town of Riverview and Fundy Biosphere Region, this Sunfest event will help raise funds for the Wabanaki Forest Museum project where permanent signage will be created in English, French and Mi’kmaq to help identify significant trees in Mill Creek Nature Park.

During this event, you’ll follow a map throughout Mill Creek Nature Park to find five separate booths. With every booth you find, you’ll be given an additional playing card at random until you’ve collected all five and have a Poker hand. Each poker hand will cost $20 and we encourage families, individuals, and folks of all ages to attend. With three chances to win cash prizes, the odds are you’ll have fun, learn something new and maybe even have the winning Poker hand!

In addition to raising money, you’ll then have a chance to win one of three cash prizes:
First Place: $250
Second Place: $100
Third Place: $50

We suggest this event to an 18-year and older crowd but all are welcome!

Please note the rain date for this event is Thursday, June 30 at 6 p.m.
